Working with director, Randy Roberts, we set out for an intense discovery of the design of the "V" as we shot athletes, models, buildings, landscapes, paint elements and things in nature. All of these subjects would be composited later to create compelling and vivid imagery. We see a skateboarder as the grid becomes a half-pipe, a snowboard skims the mountain side, a bmx cyclist navigates a hill, a dj scratches in front of an equalizer and the surfer rides a wave. Signs and vibrant motion graphics point lead singer, Erica Wennerstrom to various destinations where she meets unusual characters such as a Hunter S. Thompson-style urban beach bum who keeps the company of weirdly dressed mannequins, and offers her sake and a cootie catcher. During the chorus, graphic backgrounds and animated rainbow ribbons take Wennerstrom and the band into another world akin to a Alice falling down the rabbit hole. As creative director, I wanted to capture this vibe by developing a design direction that would reinforce the scavenger hunt idea in a signature way.
